But Emrich made his mark on the franchise in the weight room, which was named in his honor in 2008. In his day, he was one of the most decorated lifters in the world, participating in the 1952 Olympics, the 1954 and ‘55 world championships and the 1959 Pan American Games. He won four national titles, was the world’s first man under 200 pounds to clean and jerk 400 pounds and is in the USA Weightlifting Hall of Fame.
