Once he and his team searched the area, they entered Rush’s office after midnight “due to it being in the perfect spot to watch the mall,” Jones told internal affairs. A couple other supervisors told investigators they didn’t know the office belonged to Rush initially, but they figured it out eventually, they said, when they noticed posters inside it. The office had a break-in shortly before 10 p.m. and trespassers broke a window, damaged framed photos and documents, as well as other items, according to a police report.
