To avoid spreading diseases such as dogwood canker, take care to disinfect your pruners. Before you start pruning, wipe the tool all over with 70% rubbing alcohol. Then, after every cut, wipe the blades with the alcohol or dunk them in a 25% bleach solution so you don’t spread disease from one stem to another.
