And this, as it turns out, is even better for a getaway spot than a merely evocative name. The area my wife and I roamed through one fine, long weekend — on bike, in canoe, and, yes, by SUV patiently waiting for the chance to pass quaint Amish buggies and their less-quaint fluorescent warning triangles — featured a landscape that rolls over hill crests, plunges into valleys and steers rivers into near corkscrew shapes as they mosey past exposed sandstone bluffs.
