A fire broke out in a basement the 1400 block of West Garfield Boulevard about 5:45 a.m. Friday, according to police. Two adults, a man and a woman, were transported in critical condition to the University of Chicago Medical Center where they were later pronounced dead, according to the Chicago Fire Department. The woman is in her 50′s, the man in his 60′s, The Fire Department said.
