White’s decision not to seek reelection has spurred a competitive race for the Democratic nomination, with former state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, Chicago City Clerk Anna Valencia and state Sen. Michael Hastings of Frankfort all previously announcing their intention to run. Cook County Clerk Karen Yarbrough, who had been considering a bid, dropped her effort and is backing Dowell.
