In his final Cactus League appearance of the spring Thursday night in Mesa, Ariz., Alzolay pitched well against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Cubs’ 5-2 loss. The rookie held the defending champions to one hit and two runs in 3⅔ innings while striking out five and walking one. Alzolay’s slider, a pitch he worked on at the alternate site last year, generated whiffs and complemented his fastball.
